Team Building on a Budget

There is always lots of talk about teambuilding to increase productivity in a business. And this goes for all size businesses whether they are small, medium or large corporations. It is possible to build a strong team in a very small business with only three or four employees and it is possible to build a strong team in a very large corporation on a very small budget. It may shock you to learn how easy it is, yet so many businesses spent millions of dollars in what they call organizational capital. They send their corporate executives to teambuilding missions and survival training and things of this nature.

There is an easier way of course to build a team and get your organizational capital going in your business without spending a lot of money. After being in business for 27 years I've found the best way to build teams was to do it by working late one night on a project such as a marketing campaign and order pizza. We would get everyone in a room and watch videos from our core competition. We would look at their ads, television commercials and even brochures and sales videos. We would put maps on the wall of each of their locations.

We would use a red dots, green dots and orange dots to show where our competition was and we would draw rings and circles around their locations to indicate 10 mile radius, which would represent 80% of their customer volume. We would then get out phone books and zip codes and figure out where best to send our sales team's and who to cold call. We would work till three in the morning and it was the amazing the plans and marketing strategies we could develop in our ready room. This is how we built teams and I did it for under $100 including the pizza, drinks, maps and magic markers.

And he one who says that you need to spend a time of money to develop organizational capital is an academic and be a fraud. I hate losers and weak people who waste money and are an efficient and I thank God that they work for my competition. What is a matter can to handle reality; you are a bunch of wimps, you waste money and you can't compete with real men on the battlefield. If you are not into winning, you need not be on my team and I really do not care how much you spend because our team will always beat you. Consider that in 2006.
